Mini Greenhouse Growing Rack

My beginner-friendly review of the Mini Greenhouse Growing Rack: cheap, surprisingly useful, and a great first indoor growing rack for microgreens.

If you’re looking for a mini greenhouse growing rack (or a small indoor growing rack) to start microgreens without spending a ton, this is one of the simplest entry points I’ve personally used. It’s cheap, it works, and it fits Barrina T5 grow lights really well.

Quick Overview

A cheap first rack that’s actually useful

This was the first indoor growing rack I ever bought, and I don’t regret it. It’s a great beginner rack for microgreens, and it’s also easy to repurpose for experiments and other indoor growing ideas.

Beginner tip: If you plan to scale beyond a starter setup, I recommend jumping to my Best Indoor Growing Racks page for larger rack options.

My Thoughts & Review

My review: why I liked it as my first indoor growing rack

This was the first indoor growing rack I ever bought and I immediately loved it. First, it was cheap, and I didn’t have much money to invest at the time. Second, it’s good quality and it actually worked.

It fit Barrina T5 grow lights well, and I grew all types of microgreens under it. I never personally used the greenhouse cover feature, but I can see how it would add value by creating a greenhouse effect.

I’ve also used the rack for other things, including an experiment with an EXO Tower under it after removing some levels to make it fit. So it’s versatile, and it ended up being useful in more ways than I expected.

Bottom line: I don’t regret buying it. It’s perfect for beginners. If you want to upgrade or do more, I’d recommend a larger rack from my Best Indoor Growing Racks page.

This rack was a solid “first win” for microgreens. Cheap, functional, and easy to learn on.
Use Cases

How I used it (and how you can use it)

Use case #1: microgreens + easy lighting

If you want a clean indoor microgreen workflow, this rack plus simple shop lights (like Barrina T5s) is a low-cost way to start producing consistently.

What I liked about it for microgreens
  • Easy to hang lights and dial in tray spacing
  • Simple routine: lights + water + harvest cadence
  • Beginner-friendly layout (no complicated build)

For larger upgrades and better long-term workflows, check Best Indoor Growing Racks.

Use case #2: “greenhouse cover” (optional value)

Even though I didn’t personally use the cover much, it can add value by increasing humidity and temperature—useful for seedlings, cuttings, or seasonal transitions.

When the cover can help
  • Seed starting and early-stage plants that benefit from humidity
  • Protecting plants from drafts near windows/doors
  • Creating a more stable microclimate (within reason)
Using the rack structure for other projects like lighting support (EXO Tower experiment)
I even repurposed the rack setup for other experiments (like lighting support). Versatility matters.

FAQ

FAQ: Mini Greenhouse Growing Rack

Is this mini greenhouse growing rack good for beginners?

Yes. It’s a cheap first rack that’s easy to learn on, especially for microgreens and simple indoor growing. If you outgrow it, upgrade to a larger rack from the Best Indoor Growing Racks page.

Will Barrina T5 grow lights fit on this rack?

In my experience, yes—Barrina T5 lights fit well and make this rack a strong low-cost entry point. If you want the full breakdown, see my Barrina T-series review.

Do I need to use the greenhouse cover indoors?

No. You can use the rack without the cover as a standard indoor growing shelf. The cover can be useful if you want extra humidity or warmth for certain plant stages.

When should I upgrade to a bigger indoor growing rack?

Upgrade when you want more trays, stronger shelving, more headroom, or a cleaner “production-style” workflow. For that, go to Best Indoor Growing Racks.
